The world is changing fast. Today, 2012 March 13, people read Mr. James Whittaker’s blog on Microsoft site again, and the title is “Why I left Google”:

The Google I was passionate about was a technology company that empowered its employees to innovate. The Google I left was an advertising company with a single corporate-mandated focus.

The old Google made a fortune on ads because they had good content. It was like TV used to be: make the best show and you get the most ad revenue from commercials. The new Google seems more focused on the commercials themselves.

The old Google was a great place to work. The new one?

Microsoft “Live” Will Be Replaced By “Microsoft Account”

Most of Microsoft online users have a Live ID, which is the uniform User ID for Microsoft web stuff. In Windows 8, Live ID will be changed to Microsoft Account.

Microsoft to buy Skype tomorrow ?

Updated:

We got a newest news: Microsoft has already done the deal, the purchase price is $8.5 billion. I think Microsoft will announce tomorrow morning  (May 10, 2011).

—————

We read lots of message about Microsoft is to buy out Skype today or tomorrow or soon, the price is about $7 billion or $8 billion.

A deal could be announced soon, maybe tomorrow ?

Actually, not only Microsoft is interested in Skype, but also Facebook. Don’t know why there is no news from Facebook this time.

“At a value close to $8 billion, the Skype deal would rank as the biggest acquisition in the 36-year history of Microsoft, a company that traditionally has shied away from large deals. In 2007, Microsoft paid approximately $6 billion to acquire online advertising firm aQuantive Inc. Many current and former Microsoft executives believe Microsoft significantly overpaid for that deal. But they are also relieved that Microsoft gave up on an unsolicited $48 billion offer for Yahoo Inc. nearly three years ago. Yahoo is valued at half that sum today.

Microsoft’s “Street View” map – StreetSide

You might have known Google’s street view map, it is great to let people view street. Actually Microsoft has also great map service: Bing map.

Currently you can see Bing map provides a nice “Bird’s Eye” function which you can check the map on the closed sky view to see a 3D map, but it is not good as Google’s street view which you can see the same view as you are in the street .

Now Microsoft has released new version of Bing map which includes new feature including the same Street View function, they call StreetSide.

The following are screen shots:

(This is a Bird’s Eye view but you can see there is a new button “Streetside” )

You can have a look at this video about “The Making of StreetSide in Bing Maps” from Microsoft. (how Bing Maps created the Streetside user experience.)

And the most important :  Click here to Try the Streetside by yourself !

Also, there are lots of youtube video which you can view.

Yahoo! Announces Microsoft Talks Have Concluded

SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO – News), a leading global Internet company, today announced that discussions with Microsoft regarding a potential transaction — whether for an acquisition of all of Yahoo! or a partial acquisition — have concluded. The conclusion of discussions follows numerous meetings and conversations with Microsoft regarding a number of transaction alternatives, including a meeting between Yahoo! and Microsoft on June 8th in which Chairman Roy Bostock and other independent Board members from Yahoo! participated. At that meeting, Microsoft representatives stated unequivocally that Microsoft is not interested in pursuing an acquisition of all of Yahoo!, even at the price range it had previously suggested.
