Cancel Your Air Canada Ticket To Get Credit

When we want to cancel your Air Canada ticket, we have 2 ways to do: Get money refund if your ticket is refundable, but you will be charged $200 cancel fee, or get Air Canada credit without $200 lost but a $50 change fee charged, if your ticket is non-refundable, you ONLY have the way to get credit. Of course if your ticket is refundable but you do not want to lost $200 you can choose credit too.
“Fully unused non-refundable tickets may be applied as a credit towards the purchase of one new ticket in the passenger's name. Travel must commence within 1 year of date of original issue. If the fare for the new journey is lower, any residual amount will be forfeited. Additional fare amount and change fees may apply.” -- From aircanada.
This blog ONLY provide the information how to cancel ticket to get credit. we are not going to talk about how to refund since it is simpler, just call Air Canada Reservations to get refund.
For get credit, you can either call Air Canada Reservations or do it on Air Canada website for DIY.
**Here we choose DIY (cancel ticket online).**
Before we start to following steps, please make sure whether you can cancel ticket online:
_**Which bookings can be cancelled online?**_
_**You may cancel your booking online if:**_
_You originally booked your flight on aircanada.com
You are cancelling your entire booking.
You are cancelling your flight at least two hours before departure._
_
**You may not cancel your booking online if:**_
_You booked your flight through Air Canada Reservations or by another means:You'll need to cancel your flight via the same method it was booked.
You are looking to cancel an Aeroplan Reward Booking:Please contact Aeroplan directly.
You need to make a partial cancellation:Please call Air Canada Reservations._
**_How do online refunds work?_**
_If your entire fare is fully refundable:
When you cancel this type of booking online, you'll be offered an online refund. You will also be given the option to retain the value of your unused ticket for future travel._
_If only a part of your travel is refundable:
In this case, your online option will be to retain the balance of your unused ticket for future travel. You can also request a partial refund by calling Air Canada Reservations. _
_If your fare is not refundable:
If you purchased a non refundable fare and wish to cancel your booking online, the value of your ticket will be banked for use as a future travel credit._
_To use the value of an unused ticket for future travel, please contact Air Canada Reservations._
**Cancel online steps:**
1: Login in to your Air Canada account, and choose the top right corner menu “My Bookings”
2: From your booking list, choose the ticket which you want to cancel, click the View Booking link;
3: On the Fight Booking information page, choose “Cancel Booking”:
4: Read the notice information and input your email address, and click “Cancel My Entire Booking” button to continue:
5: System will processing some while:
6: Later you will get the following page that indicates your ticket cancelled already, also, you will get an email notification about this cancellation:

Please print this page for future reference and keep your booking reference number. You will need to contact Air Canada Reservations to use an outstanding travel credit toward the purchase of a new ticket. (Fares available online are not necessarily available through Air Canada Reservations.)
The value of an unused ticket can be applied to the value of a new ticket provided outbound travel commences within one year of original ticket issuance.
Non transferable: the original booking passenger(s) must use their respective amount(s).
Any amount remaining unused after booking a new flight is forfeited.
Non refundable travel options, such as assigned seat selection, Maple Leaf Lounge access, and Onboard Café snack or meal vouchers may be used on future flights, subject to availability.
Any eUpgrade Credits used to upgrade the cancelled flight will be returned to your account.
Your reservation will be subject to the change fees applicable to the ticket submitted as a credit. Please refer to your itinerary/receipt for the rules that apply to your ticket._
7: Now you might be worried: you will find there is no more new message about your ticket value or the credit, you can not see the credit in your account of Air Canada either.
How can you do? Yes, you can call Air Canada if you wan to know more information.
However, if you can wait, around after 10 ~15 minutes, you will receive another email (check attachment), which is about your cancelled ticket, now it has been changed to new information, the Flight is now “**ACOPEN**”, and new expired date.
Then you keep this email , and call Air Canada for the next ticket booking using the ticket credit when you are ready to travel for the next time.
