Software Hack Wii Using Homebrew and Letterbomb

2015-10-14

This is a very late Wii hack practice by myself. Because many many other people have already done the same process. We did not try hacking Wii before was because we did not need to hack it, and also we changed to another game device.

But in this moth, I found back our Wii and realized that I might have to try how is the Wii hacking.

OK, let me do it, but please know this is NOT a new tutorial about how to soft hack Wii, what I will do is the same thing and process which other people do.

I knew there were several popular ways to hack Wii earlier, but finally the most popular way was using Bombletter tool to install Homebrew on Wii. I will do the same way.

1: First, please make sure your Wii’s firmware version is 4.3, Please follow these 3 steps to check the version number. My Wii’s version number is 4.3U, which means it is 4.3 North America version.

U = US / North America
E = Europe / Australia
J = Japan
K = Korea

image image image 2: Find out your Wii’s MAC address: Because we will use the MAC address to get Bombletter package later so now we need to know the Wii’s MAC address. You check the Wii Options and then Select Wii Settings, just like previous steps, but not select Wii System Settings 1 but select Wii System Settings 2, then select Internet item. image Then click Console Information item: image Then you see your Wii’s MAC address, it is a string format image   3: Generate LetterBomb.zip file: We will use the tool, named LetterBomb, a scaring name but it is fine for Wii hacking. Just go to the website please HackMii, input your Wii’s MAC address on their webpage, and then input CAPICHA from screen, then click anyone of Cut the red wire and Cut the blue wire, doesn’t matter which one actually, will get same result. You will get a generated LetterBomb.zip file. image  4: Find a SD (or SDHC) card which can be inserted to your Wii SD slot. I used a 8GB SD card which formatted in FAT32. actually FAT is OK. copy the LetterBomb.zip file from your computer to the SD card, unzip it on the root folder of SD. and then insert the SD card to your Wii; 5: Now you will see there is email on your Wii: image Click the email button, change the date to the previous day (some people had to change to previous 2 or more days), you will see a Bomb icon email like the following screen shot: image 6: If you see the Bomb icon email, just click it to start handling the software hack, you will see the screen like below one: image You will have to wait a short while, to wait for the screen changed to like the following one. Note: you will have to wait “Press 1 to continue” text string appears, otherwise you have to wait (or failed): image 7: Click the 1 button on your Wii remoter to continue. Note: Sometimes your Wii remote lost connection or if multiple remoters the main remote might be switched to another one, you will try to connect the main remoter and click 1 button, otherwise, you will have to Shutdown your Wii here and restart, to connect your Wii remote first, and go back to above step 5 and repeat the steps were done previously. Now you can see the screen like below one, it will install Homebrew Channel for you. just click Continue: image Install The Homebrew Channel, Select it to continue… image Install Homebrew Channel successfully. image   8:  Now we select Continue from above screen, we can see the Homebrew Channel has already installed for you. now we select BootMii item to install it: image The BootMii need you to keep the SD card inserting in the Wii, you then see the installing message: image   9: OK, after BootMii installed, please select Return to the main menu image You will return to the Wii main menu, and you will see there is a new Channel named the Homebrew Channel installed on your Wii. Actually your Wii was software hacked, the Homebrew Channel installed done. image But you will not see anything in homebrew channel now, you will have to find games and apps from other place, to download apps to your SD card (normally should put downloaded apps under the Apps folder on your SD card), and then you will see the apps list in the homebrew channel. For example, you can download lots of games from here. Enjoy !
