SharePoint My first research

My pre-research for Share point:

1: My real personal experience of using Sharepoint:

I ever worked in a .NET web project team for an American company, the very interesting thing is each team member worked in their own home, we just had few meeting time to ask every team member meet in a place. Actually, team members were living in different cities (towns), It was hard time when we had to meet.

The team leader used Sharepoint to manage whole project. She arranged tasks and controlled the developing schedule for every team member;

Each team member could get our own task and schedule plan from SharePoint, but we could just see the project information which team leader provided the permissions to us. We also can put our daily job and document to SharePoint; and we could change our task's status; we needed to report daily job through SharePoint;

I also searched information and document on Sharepoint when I needed them by inputting key words or date. I think Sharepoint is a good platform to manage new document and existing document. I found in my search result page, I even saw the document brief introduction under each document title, just like Google search page (I am not sure whether this feature is Sharepoint default feature OR it was developed by programmer)

Above is just ONE application case with Sharepoint due to my own experience, I think Sharepoint has many other application solutions.

At least I know, in ONE server of Sonavox Canada, we already have stored big volume of document, I think we can consider to use Sharepoint to take a good use these document. NOT only store there, let our employee use them, search them, get help from them, and share more of them.

2: "Why Office SharePoint Server 2007?" From Microsoft website

Why Office SharePoint Server 2007?

In any organization, there’s no shortage of data. The issue is finding the data when you need it.

Many workers spend several hours each day trying to find information they need to do their jobs. Some give up and re-do work that has already been done. Others stumble across old information and think it’s current.

The result is wasted resources and bad data, which can lead to poor business decisions.

That’s where Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 can help. SharePoint Server 2007 helps employees find and share useful, relevant information, which can help them to make better business decisions. It can also help them manage their workflow, increasing productivity.

Instead of searching their stuffed e-mail inboxes for the latest versions of a file, they can go to one central location to find the right file. The latest version is always readily available. They can also collaborate on a document without losing track of which version is the most recent using versioning.

Instead of sending out e-mails to everyone, they can update everyone on their project though blogs, wikis, or their own personal MySite. Electronic forms presented through SharePoint Server 2007 can dramatically cut paperwork.

Instead of wondering how they’re doing, employees can view key performance indicators on their own personal page. If they need to find an expert on a particular topic, they can search the company’s resources using the built-in search featuare.

And they can do this easily with a robust package that has a consistent interface and works well with the Microsoft Office productivity software they’ve used for years.

Strong productivity gains and better business decisions all lead to an incredible return on investment. That’s why a growing number of businesses are wondering how they ever got by without Office SharePoint Server 2007.
