ICANN Approved New-Top Level Domains

2011 June 19, ICANN gave final approval allowing the expansion of new Top-Level Domains (TLDs) in Singapore. The New-Top Level Domains policy will allow companies and organizations to turn their own brands into Internet domain extensions (that is .brand) or to create broad generic strings such as .CAR, .SPORTS or .BANK.
Actually, the new domain policy was first announced in 2008.
June 19, The ICANN board members voted 13 for, 1 against, 2 abstain during its 41st international meeting in Singapore.
The Chinese company Aigo became the first Chinese brand to apply the new top level domain. They will use .Aigo domain.
Aigo CEO Mr. Jun Feng publish the news in his Chinese mini blog:
Beside .Aigo, Canon, IBM, FaceBook and the Patriot was reported to apply their own brand domain names
ICANN will start to accept the applications for new top-level domain from Jan 12, 2012, and stopped accepting applications in Apr 12, 2012, in the first period it will only be open for 3 months.
“New top-level domain is open on the issue , ICANN meeting has been discussed for years, this resolution is a response to this global trend of development of the Internet , the Internet will enter a new era ! “ In the just , ICANN’s chairman , Mr. Peter Dengate Thrush so excited declared the resolution .
Also, .Shop, .Game, .Web and other popular English words have been aimed by lots of business and services company to be applied to the new top-level domains.
